Hit The Links | No. 3

Whew, what a bizarre week its been! Winter storm Leon hit the southeast and blanketed Clemson with some beautiful white fluff! We didn't have class Tuesday or Wednesday which was such an unexpected treat. We played all over campus and just had way too much fun! As I've done the last two weeks in this new series, I gathered up my favorites from around the internet to share with y'all- take a look!

#1 // Jimmy Fallon brought the men of Full House back together as their iconic 90's characters in a hilarious sketch for his show. I may have died just a little bit. I swear John Stamos is the only guy who could ever make a mullet look good. Oh, the nostalgia.

#2 // Tommy Hilfiger is the king of the ad campaign world in my opinion. His "Meet the Hilfigers" ads always tell a story, and his Spring/Summer 2014 collection does not disappoint!

#3 // I checked off an item on my Clemson bucket list- sledding down the huge hill near our lake. Go check out the video on my Instagram (and follow)! So much fun.
#4 // Sarah Jessica Parker's shoe line will be released in the end of February and I think I speak for all women when I say that I am so excited! SJP will always be Carrie to me no matter what, so it's really like you're getting a pair of shoes custom designed for you by her infamous character. Or so I like to imagine ;)

My mom and brother are coming up for the weekend today and I'm so excited to see them! Between their visit and the Super Bowl on Sunday it's sure to be a great first weekend of February (sidenote: can't believe January is already over) PS: Don't forget about Groundhogs day on Sunday! I'm hoping as hard as I can for an early spring! Happy weekend loves! xoxo

How To Wear: Tassel Necklace

I'm the first to admit I don't get as creative with my jewelry as I should. I pretty much stick to my every day pieces (gold watch, monogram necklace, pearl studs, Clemson ring) unless I'm going out at night.

I feel like J. Crew has been a huge trendsetter in the jewelry game for a few years now- I'm sure everyone remembers the bubble necklace obsession that took over the blog world from a few years ago. (Sidenote: Thank goodness that's over!) This past spring they introduced the tassel necklace and I've been seeing it more and more around the blogosphere. I love how luxe it can make even the most simple outfit look. Here's a little Pinspiration on how to style it from some fab ladies!

Yesterday Ms. Mackenzie Horan of Design Darling introduced some new arrivals to her boutique. When I saw this beauty I immediately fell in love. If I had my way I would pair it with a plain tee, great jeans, and a fabulous pair of heels! For now, this poor college student will keep on dreamin'

What's your favorite jewelry to spice things up? Can't wait to hear! Happy Humpday! xoxo

Musical Monday: Take 2

Happy Monday folks! Did you watch the Grammy's last night? I swear being on Twitter while watching award shows is one of the best parts of social media. Seeing everyone's reactions in real time just cracks me up! There were some seriously awesome performances- my favorites were definitely Jay-Z and Beyonce's opening number and the mashup between Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar. So, so good.

While watching the show I saw the first trailer for Disney's new movie "Maleficent" staring Angelina Jolie. I am a huge Disney nerd so seeing this modern remake of one of my all time favorite Disney classics is so exciting. However, while the movie looks great, one of the biggest parts of the trailer that caught my attention was Lana Del Rey's version of "Once Upon A Dream". It's such a different take on the original, but so legendary in its own haunting way. Take a listen-

When I heard the song I knew I had to make it into outfit form with my new Musical Monday feature! The look is definitely different from my normal style, but it is so much fun in its intense sassiness. It would definitely take me some serious attitude to pull off! Leather leggings, a statement lip, and an emerald top=fierce in my book.
Once Upon A Dream

Have you seen the trailer? I can't wait for the full version of the song to be released on February 3rd! Hope y'all have a wonderful start to your week! xoxo

Hit The Links | No. 2

We did it! Another week of work and school is in the books and it's time to relax! I've decided (for now at least) to make this 'hit the links' idea a weekly feature here on SPC! It's just so fun to share my weekly favorites with y'all, and I know I personally enjoy reading these type posts on other blogs! (Hope y'all agree!) Therefore, without further ado here are my four favorites from this week!

#1 // Lo Bosworth's Youtube Channel. Chances are if you grew up in the 90's/00's you remember Lo from Laguna Beach and The Hills. I loved her sassy, slightly ditsy "character" on the show (gotta remember it was fake), but real life Lo is so much better! Her channel is full of fun videos on everything from cooking, to fashion and beauty. She's just so adorable and I love that she's doing this!
#2 // Olivia Rae James beautiful blog. I have followed Ms. James on Instagram for some time now, but it was only this week that I discovered her lovely blog. She has an indescribable talent for capturing the raw beauty of life, and I'm honestly in awe of each and every photograph! The best part is that she's from the lowcountry of SC like I am, so her blog brings me back home each time I visit.

#3 // PawnShop Kings. While listening to Foy Vance on Spotify there was a break for advertisements and a snippet of this band's song started to play. Normally I would just ignore this and impatiently wait for my music to come back on, but as soon as I heard it I immediately clicked over and listened to their whole EP. It is so so so good!! Seriously, go check these guys out! Their music is just perfection.

#4 // C. Wonder's new jewelry arrivals. Holy gorgeousness. I'm just dying over the dainty zodiac cuffs! I'll take an Aries one please! :)

I hope you all have wonderful weekends! It's my best friends 22nd birthday tomorrow so naturally we have a jam packed schedule of dinner, drinks, and fun- I'm so excited! See y'all on Monday! xo

Michael Kors Spring 2014

It's not secret that I have a huge obsession with the classic yet fresh designs of the majorly talented Mr. Michael Kors (as documented here and here). Unlike some designers his clothes and accessories are utterly wearable; there is just something about them that can make the everyday woman feel elevated, chic, and fabulous. With the temperatures plummeting across the East Coast today I'm definitely in need of some spring dreaming in my life. His 2014 ad campaign is totally gorgeous and absolutely makes me crave warm weather. Take a look!

He always manages to make American classic look completely fresh with each season he produces. I am seriously dying over those mirrored aviators and that navy dress! Good thing my birthday is in the spring, eh? ;) What's your favorite look from his new collection? Is there a particular designer you always gravitate towards the way I do with MK? Let me know!

Musical Monday

Last weekend I had one of those moods where I was craving some new music. These don't hit me often, but when they do they hit me hard. I tweeted asking for some suggestions and my sweet blog friend Emily of Cooper & Thames sent me a list of people she thought I should check out. Yesterday I finally got around to listening and totally FELL IN LOVE with one of her suggestions, Foy Vance.

If you like Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran, or anything with a folksy vibe you must listen to this Irish artist! His latest album Joy of Nothing is available on Spotify, and it is absolutely amazing! The first song on the album (which I've included below) is so much fun and gives me the happiest feeling. Take a listen!

So great, right? The song totally inspired me to create an outfit that would bring me a similar happy, bouncy feeling. Naturally that means a fur snood, colored cords, and pretty booties! ;)

Closed Hand, Full of Friends

Does music inspire you like it does me? My younger brother is an amazing musician and has the best taste in music so I felt pretty cool suggesting a great artist to him that he actually hadn't heard of yet! We may even go to a Foy Vance concert in Charlotte, NC next month- woo hoo! I hope this song brings some sunshine to your Monday and starts your week on the right foot!

PS- If you have any bands you think I should listen to comment below- I'd love to hear!

Hit the Links | No. 1

Happy weekend y'all! After my first full week back at the daily grind of school, working out etc. I am exhausted! (sidenote: thank goodness for coffee!) Though it was the first week of class my friends and I managed to sneak some fun into the mix. On Monday we went out to celebrate a friend's 22nd birthday, and on Wednesday we checked an item off of our Senior Year Bucket List- trivia night at a local bar! All it all it was a busy but good week, and I'm feeling grateful to be back at Clemson with my favorite people!

This week there were a lot of fun things floating around the internet that I thought I'd share with y'all so take a look!

#1 // Carly, aka College Prepster, wrote a beautifully honest blog post about real life and how the images we put on the internet really don't reflect the complete picture of our crazy lives. Seriously, go read it and see if you aren't completely inspired and humbled!

#2 // Unroll Me. If you're anything like me you have a lot of unnecessary email subscriptions. This handy site takes away the dreaded task of having to comb through your inbox and individually unsubscribe to each site. I had no idea how many things I had subscribed to throughout the years (over 100...), and now I can go through life without constantly deleting emails- yay!

#3 // I'm a certified Buzzfeed addict, so naturally I had to take this fun quiz! Take it and see what city you get! I got LA the first time around, and then Portland the second. I've never been to either city so I'm not too sure what that says about me...

#4 // This Modern Magnolias recap of the Golden Globes. I watched the show live and laughed so much. Amy Pohler and Tina Fey are genius and should host everything ever. (Other than the Tony's- NPH has that one on lock.)

That's all I've got! I hope y'all have a great holiday weekend and enjoy that day off on Monday, I know I sure will! xoxo

Style Crush: Allison Williams

So I've come to the conclusion that Allison Williams is perfect. It takes a lot for a celebrity to be both gracious, intelligent, funny, eloquent, talented, and drop dead gorgeous; but this girl meets each of these in a major way. My absolute favorite part is that she graduated from Yale and was an English major (like me!) #kindredspirit.

I must confess that I don't have HBO so I've only viewed one episode of Girls, but from what I've seen of her from television and magazine interviews she is just a super star. She honestly looks beautiful and poised whether she's in a ball gown or a button down, and I would go as far as to say she's going to become the Audrey of our generation. If you're skeptical just read this interview and see if you don't become as obsessed as I am!

Green Smoothie Recipe

Confession- up until last summer I had never (regularly) cooked for myself. Sure I could do things like make a sandwich or scramble eggs, but I since I went straight from living at home to having a meal plan at college I never really had a reason to learn or even experiment with real food. When I found myself without a meal plan and living away from home last summer I had to learn by necessity and I'm so glad I did! I'm no chef by any means, but now consider myself a master at roasting veggies and grilling a mean chicken breast ;)

After playing around in the kitchen with meat and veggies I decided to try something 'fun' and quickly discovered how much I adore green smoothies! I had been pinning them for years but never had the guts to actually attempt to make one for some reason. Once I finally tried to concoct one of these famous drinks I feel in love. They're so tasty, healthy, and easy to make!

My favorite "recipe"-
1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
a few handfuls of spinach
and about a cup of frozen fruit.

Tip: I usually buy a bag of fresh spinach then put it in the freezer so that my smoothie has an even better texture and I don't have to water it down with ice cubes!

What's your favorite green smoothie to make? Can't wait to hear your recipes!

Obsessing Over Orchid

Good morning sweet followers! I hope your first week back in "real life" mode wasn't too hard! It's been both good and bad to get back into the swing of thing, it definitely takes some readjustment! Earlier this week I wrote a post for Modern Magnolias about the Pantone 2014 Color of the Year - Radiant Orchid. When this color first came out I'll admit I was a little disappointed since I was head over heels in love with 2013's color, Emerald. However, this sweet yet sassy purple hue has grown on me and I've come to really like it!

Head over to Modern Magnolias (and follow while you're there!) to see the full article and how I styled a few looks featuring Radiant Orchid! Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! xoxo

Target Treasures: Bikini Edition

Good morning and happy last "first day of school" to me and any other fellow Seniors out there! I know I sound like a broken record with all these "lasts" and "firsts", but that's really what this time in my life consists of and it's totally scary/exciting at the same time. On another, more upbeat note my friends and I just booked our spring break trip for this March! We're heading down to the Gulf Coast of Florida 9 weeks from this Saturday (not that I'm counting..) and I'm so excited!

Spring Break daydreams are really what get me through the frigid winter months. Seriously, as soon as we finalized our plans I began to search/Pin bathing suits. In my perusing I found some seriously cute suits (at Target of course) that I just had to share. They're all in the "hanky" top style that gained popularity last summer. I never tried the trend so I'm looking forward to giving one of these pretties a shot this year!

I know it feels like Spring Break is a million years away, but it will be here before we know it! It's time to get down to business and start working off those Christmas cookies so we can look as fab as possible while lounging in the glorious warm sunshine.

What I Wore

I'll admit I tend to get into a wintertime rut when I get dressed - jeans, boots, sweater - but every so often I switch it up and remember how a little change can go a long way. Last week my mom and I went shopping on a particularly wet, rainy day which meant it was a Bean Boot day. Usually I just throw on my favorite pair of jeans, but decided to see how my olive skinnies from Old Navy would look instead and was pleasantly surprised. If you follow me on Instagram (which you should!) you already saw this outfit, but for those of you who haven't I've included the pics below-

My top layer wasn't that ground breaking, but I really loved the way it came together. I usually wear my Barbour jacket but I felt like olive pants and an olive jacket was a bit overboard. I got this J. Crew jacket last year for Christmas and definitely see myself wearing it a ton this winter/spring! I'm looking forward to playing around with layers and subtle changes to mix up my closet this season. I'll be sure to share my favorite looks! What is your winter "uniform"? Let me  know!

Texture

The holiday season is officially over and a few months of winter loom ahead. Personally after Christmas I'm ready to dive right into springtime. January/February have always been my least favorite months of the year, but I'm going to try really hard to give them a chance to surprise me this year! In super cold temps dressing can seem like a chore (layers on layers on layers), so I've been trying to find a way to make winter fashion fun. While online shopping the other day the inspiration I was searching for suddenly hit me- texture! Think about it, what other season do we get to play with so many different type of fabrics at one time? Winter is the perfect time of year to add depth and tactile/visual interest to your emsemble since you have to wear so much clothing out of necessity. I've compiled a list of my favorite textures and a few examples of how to rock them- take a look!

Tweed
Shearling
Velvet

How do you utilize textures in winter fashion? What look is your favorite? Can't wait to hear!
