The Final Finals

Well, it's my (last) finals week of college y'all! If there is one aspect of college that I will not miss it's this!

Until Friday I'll be up to my elbows in papers, coffee, projects, final essays and deadlines. I'll be back next week when all this craziness is over. Good luck to my fellow college students who are in the same boat! We can do this!

Life & Links

Happy weekend y'all! I'm sorry I'm late with my post today, but this week has been crazy (in the best way possible). Today was my last day of college. Last day. It's so cliche but I really feel like my first day of college just happened, and I simply cannot believe that the end has come so quickly. Despite the bittersweetness of being a senior, this week has been so full of happiness and I've made some amazing memories-

Taught my last Zumba class
Road-tripped to Atlanta to see The Lion King with my sweet boyfriend
Toured the bell tower in Tillman Hall (of one of the oldest buildings/icons on our campus)
Jumped in our school's reflection pond with my best friend
Had a fabulous lunch/froyo adventure with said best friend ^ and my little
Snuck into our football stadium and played around
Went on my first outside run of the year by the lake

I'm planning to write a more detailed post about my college experience/being a senior/how I'm feeling about this crazy transitional time in my life later on, but I just had to share a little preview since I've been bursting with love and thankfulness for life today. :)

On another note- I threw together a few links that I loved reading/watching this past week and wanted to share with y'all!

1 // This article sums up how I'm feeling about almost being done with college #dontmakemegraduate

2 // Three words- Mary Kate and Ashley

3 // Awesomely helpful productivity tips for extremely busy people (aka college students during finals)

I hope you have a fantastic weekend! And to my fellow seniors- make sure you soak up every single thing and have as much fun possible in these next couple weeks! xoxo

Broadway

I made my first Polyvore outfit set when I was 16. I was about to go to New York and the set was what I imagined myself wearing to a broadway show. Looking back the outfit is a bit embarrassing, but it's fun to see how much my style has evolved as I've gotten older.

I've seen a bunch of Broadway shows (Beauty & the Beast, Lion King, Wicked, Little Mermaid, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story) and loved them all. Going to a show is probably #1 on my list of favorite activities on Earth. As a dancer I have a special place in my heart for performance and the theatre.

I haven't been to a show since my last trip to Manhattan in 2009, but that all changes tonight because my amazing boyfriend Brandon got us tickets (my birthday present!) to see The Lion King in Atlanta! The last time I saw the show I was 13 so I'm beyond excited to see it again, and to see him experience it for the first time!

As you can see, the show is so aesthetically rich and a treat for the eyes as well as the ears. The costuming is gorgeous and inspired me to create an outfit with the same colorful, bold, exotic vibe!

What's your absolute favorite Broadway show? I may be going back to the city this summer and would love your recommendations! xoxo

Deconstructed

Lately I've been forgoing my usually clean-cut style for something a little more laid back and unstructured. I usually like crisp, fitted clothing like chino shorts, tailored shift dresses, and button downs, but for whatever reason I've been gravitating toward all things chill and un-done. Flowy dresses, distressed denim, loose cotton shorts, white sneaks, simple tanks, strappy sandals, natural makeup, and messy hair-- I can't get enough.

Here's some photos that are inspiring my current vibe-

This is the perfect look for summer and I can't wait to play around with new textures, shapes, and patterns that are out of my preppy fashion comfort zone. Stay tuned for some outfit posts to come!

Factory Favorites

Happy (Good) Friday beauties! What better way to kick off the weekend than some adorable clothes and an amazing sale? I am a faithful patron of J. Crew Factory and their new arrivals have me positively smitten! The best part? They're having a 50% off everything sale! I'm so tempted to go grab one of everything in my size. (Sidenote: How cute would the embroidered blouse look with white skinnies and jacks? I think I need it in my closet asap!)

Take a look at my picks-

Bucket Bags

It's simultaneously cool and bizarre to see all of these 90's trends come back into style one by one. Crop tops, flannel, mini backpacks, Birkenstocks, maxi skirts, high waisted denim, the list goes on and on. One "new again" trend I'm definitely eyeing lately is the bucket bag. These versatile bags are all the rage for spring and it's easy to see why- they're understatedly chic in a very cool, laid-back way. I love that you can wear it both on one shoulder or across your body, and that their structure makes it super easy to throw all of your stuff in without fear of it not fitting.

Their minimalist look makes them easy to pair with just about any outfit. Here's a few examples of bucket bags and the styles they've been paired with-

Don't just take it from me though, everyone's writing articles raving about these awesome bags- Glitter Guide // Elle // Who What Wear // Lucky. Go explore these links and see which bag you like best! Personally I don't think you can beat this one from Old Navy (only $25). How would you style a bucket bag?

Ps: Don't forget that I'm changing my blog's URL this Friday! Make sure to note this switch from SouthernPreppyChic to ClassicallyCurrent so you don't miss future posts :)

Time For A Change

So, as you can probably tell I'm in the process of making some big changes around here! I've been blogging with the name 'Southern Preppy Chic' for almost two years, and am more than ready to take my little corner of the web in a more cohesive direction. I have been brainstorming potential blog names for months now, but just hadn't found the right one. Last week the name "Classically Current" suddenly came to me, and I knew it was the perfect fit.

The name encompasses everything I want my blog to focus on- classic style with a current twist. This title also applies to my life updates and what's 'currently' going on with me. I'm confident this is the perfect name and hope you like it as well!

That being said, I'm going to change the URL name to 'classicallycurrent.blogspot.com' very soon, so if you use Bloglovin or another reader make sure you note this and aren't missing out on my future posts!

I hope y'all like the change and are as excited as I am about the future of Classically Current! None of this would be possible without y'all and I'm so thankful for my readers every single day! xoxo

Sale-ing into Spring

Over the past year I've realized that I pretty much only (consistently) shop at four stores- Gap, Old Navy, J. Crew Factory, and Target. My birthday money has been burning a hole in my pocket since last week and with the amazing sales that have been going on at said favorite stores I haven't been able to resist. Old Navy/Gap is currently offering free 2-day shipping until this Wednesday. J. Crew Factory is offering 30-50% off everything, and Target is doing a buy one get one half off promotion with their dresses. I swear they're all just conspiring to get my money ;)

After looking through their sales I've picked my favorite items from each. As you can see below, this spring I'm really into stripes, neutrals, jewel tones, color blocking, and pastels. Last week I ordered the striped Gap maxi (my first one ever!) and the turquoise Old Navy shorts. I'm currently eyeing these other fabulous pieces-

If you had to choose, which would you buy? I'd love to hear your opinions! What are your favorite pieces for this spring/summer? Can't wait to hear!

To Tommy, From Zooey

A few days ago I was innocently flipping through the latest issue of Glamour when I came upon a story about a new collaboration between Zooey Deschanel and Tommy Hilfiger. Oh my gosh y'all, one of my favorite actresses and one of my favorite brands doing a capsule collection? Be still my heart. The biggest question is how did I not know about this sooner?

Zooey's girly, retro style paired with Tommy's classic preppy aesthetic is the perfect mash-up in my opinion, and this precious collection may just be my favorite collab ever! Take a look-

So great, right?! She is just the cutest and I adore the ladylike vibe her style radiates. Go check everything out and shop it here! Happy weekending! xoxo

Kate Spade Spring 2014

Oh, Kate Spade. You never fail to win me over with your whimsical, nostalgic, girly perfection. Each campaign has such a story built around it that gives the clothes a wonderful dose of personality. Long gone are the days when the brand was simply another face in the crowd with a few boxy handbags sprinkled throughout department stores. Kate Spade has totally revamped over the past five years and really knows how to sell an entire way of life, not just items of clothing.

Their latest ad campaign caught my eye when flipping through a magazine and inspired me to research the rest of the photos- oh, they are all just darling! Italy, a road trip, adventure, summer, and bright happy colors? Sign me up. Take a look for yourself-

Sigh, now I have wanderlust and really want to go shopping. Well played, Ms. Spade! What's your favorite ad campaign out right now? Are you loving this as much as I am? Have a great Wednesday! xoxo

Back to Business

Sigh, my birthday week is officially over and I have to say I'm a little bummed. My birthday is one of my favorite parts of the year and I always hate to see it go. However, it was a wonderful week so I really can't complain!

The actual day of my birthday was filled with so much love and happiness that I was seriously smiling all day. The morning started with a surprise Starbucks delivery (yum) from my sweet boyfriend that got even better when he gave me my present- tickets to see The Lion King at the Fox Theater in Atlanta!! I saw the show in New York when I was thirteen and it was phenomenal, so it's safe to say I'm incredibly excited to experience it again almost ten years later!

That afternoon I went for a quick run then went shopping/to Panera with my roomie. I picked up a pair of the shorts in my last post (wearing them in the photo below!) and got a free birthday cupcake at lunch (#score). To top everything off the weather was beautiful and I got to spend a little bit of time laying out by our pool before getting ready for the evening festivities- such a treat! Here's a little glimpse at my day-

I went home for the weekend early Friday morning. I honestly forgot to write my usual Friday post because as soon as I got home I hurried off to a much needed hair appointment, got my nails done, and then went to dinner with my parents. I've been so good about posting regularly so y'all will have to forgive me for this one slip up! Here's some photos from my time at home-

Not pictured: An incredible chocolate cake I had on Sunday at our family birthday get together. After three different birthday treats and eating sweets for the past week I'm definitely in detox mode! Oh, and if you saw my birthday wishlist post I'm beyond excited to report that my parents got me an iPad Mini! I'm so excited to play with it and am already in love.

All in all it was a perfect 22nd birthday and I'm so, so blessed to have the most amazing people in my life! Here's to a great week! xoxo
