Top it Off

I've always loved hats. I think it's mainly because I have a big forehead and hats are helpful in camouflaging that. From baseball caps to panama hats to fedoras, spring is the perfect time to don this timeless accessory! I wish more ladies today wore hats like they did in the era of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

Le sigh, so chic. This spring I've been noticing more and more fashionistas, bloggers, and celebrities stepping up their hat game. Panama hats, floppy sun hats, felt hats, baseball caps, fedoras, you name it; they're rocking them.

A huge trend in the college world is monogrammed hats- both baseball and floppy. I have a white monogrammed baseball hat that I love to wear to the beach and pool. Before spring break I got a straw fedora from Target and hardly took it off all vacation, I think it just finishes an outfit off in the best way!

Michael Kors Spring 2013

Y'all. I've said it once, I'll say it again: Michael Kors is a genius. If I was a designer (and a guy) I would so be him. He hits "American Chic" on the head in such a fun, playful way. He's like a younger, more trendy Ralph Lauren (who I also happen to adore). I did a post raving about his Fall 2012 collection and his Spring 2013 collection is just as amazing. The mix of bright preppy & primary colors with pristine whites, stripes, aviators, and of course his signature gold jewelry and aviators is beyond. In the  words of the one and only Rachel Zoe: I die.

I am especially loving the bags. Here's a few that caught my eye.

Jet Set Travel Tote:
And if money were not object.... The Large Miranda Natural Grained Tote.

Swoon. What are your favorite parts of the Spring collection? Do you adore it as much as I do? Can't wait to hear your top choices!

How To Wear: Bows

I'm fairly certain one of the happiest days of my mom's life was the day I finally had enough hair to be able to wear a bow. I was born a baldie and it used to annoy my mom endlessly that people had to ask if I was a girl or boy (even if I was wearing a dress!) Once I finally had hair I always had a bow, and of course it had to coordinate with my outfit and passy. Once I could decide what I wanted to wear on my own I decided bows were for babies and refused to wear them anymore.

Who knew that it would take coming to college to rediscover bows. If you didn't already know this, a major trend for college girls, especially those in sorority and in the south, is wearing bows in your hair. Don't ask me why, I suppose it's because bows are the height of femininity and we girls are all about that. So many college focused retailers have caught onto this trend and started to take advantage of it, for example Kiss My Southern Sass. All of the KMSS merchandise features a bow and I know so many girls obsessed with this company. While I don't own any of it personally I think KMSS is so smart to cater to the sorority girl who can't get enough bows.

Personally I have had a harder time getting on board with the grown up bow wearing. Last summer I found a headband at J. Crew (similar to the one below) that I debated over for a while before finally purchasing. I haven't worn it too much but it's fun to rock when I'm feeling particularly flouncy and girlish.

What inspired this post was a feature in the April issue of Glamour that showed bows as a hair trend for spring. Louis Vuitton's spring collection featured almost all of their models rocking satin bows and looking so chic.

And of course we can't write about bows without mentioning the queen of the bow headband: Miss Blair Waldorf:

What do you think about bows? Too young or totally fun? Personally I think the trend is adorable and can't wait to proudly wear my own bow headband all spring and summer!
